Japanese fashion giant Uniqlo has confirmed the launch date for its first Australian flagship, with a string of local ambassadors to boot.

The retailer has set April 16 as the opening date for its first Australian store at The Emporium in Melbourne. As previously reported on ragtrader.com.au, the outlet will be a premium large-scale store spanning 2,180 square meters and four floors.

In addition, Uniqlo has appointed five Australians to front its first local advertising campaign and represent the brand as it tackles the local market.

Sophie Lowe, Andrew McConnell, Jessica Watson, Rone and Sara Donaldson will join Adam Scott – appointed as a Uniqlo ambassador in April 2013 – to round out the local Uniqlo brand ambassador team.

As their first task, the ambassadors will come together to celebrate the arrival of popular items from the LifeWear Autumn/Winter 2014 range at the Melbourne CBD-based Uniqlo pop-up which launched in January.

Uniqlo said the key pieces showcased from the LifeWear Autumn/Winter 2014 range will give Australians “a taste of what to expect when the first Australian store opens”.

Commenting on today’s announcement Uniqlo Australia CEO Shoichi Miyasaka said the group is eager to strengthen its presence on local shores.

“We are extremely excited to open the first Australian store on April 16 and to have these talented professionals join the Uniqlo family. Their combined and contrasting life experiences resonate with the ethos of LifeWear, and each of their individual styles are a perfect representation of what Uniqlo stands for,' he said.
