Uniqlo Australia has confirmed underpayment allegations amid a "proactive review" by a specialist assurance firm.

In a statement to Ragtrader, a Uniqlo spokesperson said the review identified that "a number of current and former store employees are entitled to additional wages and superannuation due to errors in the calculation of their entitlements."

"Our team is very important to us and we are sorry to all valued current and former employees impacted by these errors," the spokesperson said. "We are working to rectify and remediate these issues, with back payment and interest, as quickly as possible.

"We have reported the issue to the Fair Work Ombudsman and are presently contacting those affected."

"Since becoming aware of the issues, we have made enhancements to our systems and processes to prevent this from happening again."

A Fair Work Ombudsman spokesperson told Ragtrader that it is conducting an investigation in relation to Uniqlo.

"As this matter is ongoing, it is not appropriate to comment further at this time," the spokesperson said. "Workers with concerns about their pay or entitlements are encouraged to contact us directly. They can visit www.fairwork.gov.au or call the Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94."

Uniqlo has 33 stores across Australia, alongside an online store.
