Australia's 60th Good Design Awards has announced, for the first time since its inception, that it will include an award dedicated to the fashion industry.
Awarded for the first time in the awards 60 year history, the Fashion Design award is a new category established by Good Design Australia to recognise and reward design-led innovation in the fashion sector.
The Fashion Design category includes fashion accessories such as bags, eyewear, footwear, gloves, jewellery, watches, travel accessories, leather goods; fashion apparel and clothing such as runway collections, men's and women’s clothing, uniforms and costumes, professional sportswear and swimwear.
The global estimate of the fashion industry is projected at staggering $US2.4 trillion in total value.
From a sustainability point of view, the sector is one of the biggest contributors to landfill – in Australia alone, it is estimated that approximately 6000 kg of clothing is dumped into landfill every 10 minutes.
The Good Design Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of designers across 10 Design Disciplines spanning more than 30 Categories: from the best new products and services on the Australian market; excellence in fashion design,
architectural design; digital and communication design.
Call for entries for the 2018 Good Design Awards are now open and close on March 9, 2018.
