Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation's (DAAFF) Indigenous Fashion Projects organisation has opened nominations for the third annual National Indigenous Fashion Awards (NIFA).
The NIFA return for the third year in a row to recognise and celebrate the talent, diversity and ethical practices of Australia's First Nations peoples in the fashion and textiles space.
The award program recognises Indigenous creators across six categories:
- Traditional Adornment Award
- Community Collaboration Award
- Business Achievement Award
- Textile Design Award
- Wearable Art Award
- Fashion Designer Award
Previous winners include Ngali, Bima Wear, Maara Collective, Ninti One and Paul McCann.
"Australian Indigenous fashion is rapidly emerging and gaining global attention," DAAFF said in a statement.
"The Northern Territory Government has recognised the need to support this developing space, and will work closely with us to ensure that the NIFA provides capacity building opportunities for Indigenous Art Centres, emerging Indigenous fashion and textile designers, and recognises excellence in the industry," the organisation said.
The nominations for the 2022 NIFA are open now and close on March 31.
The winners will be announced at the award ceremony on August 03 at Darwin's Deckchair Cinema and will be broadcasted by NITV.
