Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre of WA (TCFWA) has launched a crowd funding campaign to publish a book 1001 Business Tips from 101 Fashion Designers.

The book will aim to assist new and emerging designers to gather first hand business advice from established brands in the industry.

The industry organisation has set up an online campaign to raise the estimated $37,500 needed for the development, production and publication of a hard copy book.

TCFWA founder and manager Carol Hanlon said that the organisation hopes the book will alleviate the pressures on new designers to tackle the business of fashion.

“There are so many pressures on fashion and creative small businesses to survive in business today, very few have an understanding of the many demands of being both creative and the business skills needed in also running their own business.

“Why is it so hard...the fashion industry is fast moving…it can be fickle with trends and colour predictions…it is about manufacturing a product…it can be a cash poor business…pricing and costings are vital…retailers can be slow paying...if producing off shore, international supply chains can be extremely complex, the list of business demands is endless.”

TCFWA has been in operation for 17 years and has assisted around 8,000 intenders or fashion related business to develop and grow in the local and international market.
