Target Australia's decision to slash five per cent off all product orders comes just a week after it praised brand partners at its 2011 Supplier Awards.
In a letter to major suppliers last week, managing director Launa Inman said tough trading conditions will see it take a five per cent rebate on orders received from September 26 to December 23, 2011.
Inman said orders from January will be subject to negotiations.
The letter arrived to suppliers a week after Target staged its 2011 Supplier Awards. The second annual event saw major suppliers such as Loftex, Peter Charles & Co, Hasbro, Ambra and Scientific recognised for their services.
