What forced Target to officially defend itself a whopping four times this month?
The discount department store was the subject of an unprecedented four cases before the Advertising Standards Board in August.
The four separate cases involved a range of intimate apparel campaigns produced in collaboration with new brand ambassador Gok Wan.
One case in the 'Style Journey' campaign made headlines after some consumers attacked Wan's sexuality in their complaints.
However, the complaints stretched beyond one channel, spanning print catalogues and television.
Catalogue complaints included opposition to front cover positioning for an intimate apparel creative, as well as a double page spread inside the edition.
The spread features dialogue from the television campaign, with Won cupping his hands to his chest and the words 'Ladies I'm all about your assets!' and 'Your bangers will never feel more loved!'.
"I found the ad highly offensive and rather demeaning of women and how it portrayed women," one complainant alleged.
Others claimed the advertising was "sexist" and "offensive", while some attacked Won's sexuality.
"It's an offence to any decent person to watch some queer guy advertising and blaspheming and using insulting descriptive words re a women's body and to be prancing around half dressed guys."
Target defended its advertising in all four cases and shot down latter complaints.
"Target strongly believes that a person's sexuality is irrelevant to their worth as a person. Target makes no apology for using a gay man in its advertising and we do not believe that this should be grounds for upholding a complaint."
The Advertising Standards Board dismissed all four cases.
