Wesfarmers has appointed former CEO of Sears Canada, Dene Rogers, as managing director of its retail chain Target, effective from next month.
The announcement follows the departure of incumbent Launa Inman, who resigned last month after almost seven years at the helm of the Australian retailer.
Inman's replacement, Rogers, will take to the position officially on November 2 and has served in retail for over 13 years. His most recent roles include executive vice president and general manager, Kmart, Sears Holding Company, Chicago, and president and chief executive officer of North American retail giant Sears in Toronto.
The role at Target will also see West-Australian born Rogers return to Australian shores, after extended overseas stints in the United States and Canada, as well as Japan, the UK and China.
Wesfarmer's managing director Richard Goyder said Rogers' appointment marked the end of a worldwide search to replace Inman.
“We are extremely pleased to have attracted a person of Dene's calibre,” he said.
“He has a track record of driving improved performance through innovation, has broad international experience, and also knows the Australian market.”
Rogers said he is also looking forward to commencing his employment at Target, with positive plans for the future.
“I am excited to be returning to Australia and joining Target, and I am looking forward to working with the team, building upon Launa's accomplishments and taking Target to new levels of customer value and satisfaction.
As reported in Ragtrader.com.au [Sep 27] Target has recently come under fire, after Inman announced that the retailer would seek a rebate from suppliers on alll orders received from September 26 to December 23, 2011. The decision would see a reduction of five per cent come off all product orders.
