New Zealand-born Allbirds has launched its first apparel collection.
The range launches with four key products – a t-shirt, wool jumper and cardigan and a puffer jacket – all created using eco-friendly materials.
Speaking on the launch, Allbirds said that it knew from the start that it would expand beyond shoes.
"From the start, we knew that our vision of evolved environmentalism was broader than just shoes.
"And as the chasm between disposable fast fashion and utilitarian basics has grown, the fashion industry has clung to the same outdated methods that continue to drive excessive carbon emissions, soil depletion, and synthetic waste.
"So we asked ourselves, why couldn’t we give people clothes they’ll love and simply make them better?" the business said.
The TrinoXO Tee is made from Allbirds' latest innovative material, XO, a naturally derived fibre made from discarded shells from marine life, the second most abundant biopolymer on Earth.
According to Allbirds, the chitosan - a sugar that is obtained from the hard outer skeleton of shellfish - has unique capabilities, allowing the clothes to stay fresh longer without relying on extractive materials like Zinc or Silver.
Meanwhile, the Trino Puffer employs a mix of Merino and Tencel materials for the exterior alongside a fluorine-free Durable Water Repellent (DWR).
On the inside, instead of traditional or synthetic down, the Allbirds Puffer is filled with Tencel and recycled polyester.
The brand's new wool jumpers and cardigans are made from responsibly sourced, ZQ-certified New Zealand Merino wool.
"The future of fashion is one that feels better, on you and on the planet," Allbirds added.
"And in 2020, it’s become more clear than ever that the most modern way of life is to live one closer to nature," the business said.
The launch of the apparel collection follows the closure of a $100 million Series E funding round which included Sydney-based firm TDM Growth Partners.
Allbirds' apparel is available now online, with prices beginning at $80.
