What makes a successful designer fashion business?

As Ragtrader Live prepares to kick off tomorrow, ragtrader.com.au reveals wise words from designer brand executives taking part in roundtables and presentations on the day.

"A successful business is a varied mix of finite strategy, great execution, constant hard work and lots of luck... mix that with a little bit of smoke and mirrors, a good deal of commitment, a great team and a strong vision. And then you need to define the word successful!". Ginger & Smart director Alexandra Smart.

"When it comes to fashion business, you need to engage experts in the fields that you're not an expert in. Because it would be irresponsible in this day and age not to have a full understanding of your business." Peter Morrissey, speaking to Ragtrader for its special 40th Year Anniversary edition.

"In looking at a fashion business, I break it down into four key elements. Product, people, brand and marketing. Coming back to the first point, product is crucial and people lose sight of that in the business landscape that is the fashion industry. You really have to focus back on your product and that is what we we spend most of our time doing at sass & bide. That is the hard and crucial part of the business." sass & bide chief executive David Briskin, speaking at the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
