Australian sports lifestyle retailer Stateside Sports has entered voluntary administration, with DVT Mcleods appointed to oversee the process as the business continues to trade.
DVT Mcleods partners Antony Resnick and Henry Kwok were appointed on May 22 and are assessing the business with a view to selling it as a going concern. The review covers the company's 31 stores nationally as well as its e-commerce platform.
Founded in 2017, Stateside Sports sells US-focused licensed merchandise across the NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball, as well as Australian sporting products including NRL retro jerseys. The retailer carries brands including New Era, Nike, Jordan and Mitchell & Ness, and has built its model around culturally relevant sporting events – from Formula One to UFC – alongside immersive in-store experiences.
Resnick said stores and online operations would remain open during the administration process.
"While we will be focusing on changes in its operations and retail footprint as a matter of urgency, for now it is business as usual and products will continue to be sold in-store and online," Resnick said.
Resnick, who previously advised on the restructure of fashion label Dion Lee, attributed the company's difficulties to broader pressures facing Australian retail.
"Australian retail has never been a game for the faint-hearted but even for Stateside Sports who are operating in a niche, youth-focused, brand relevant market, current trading conditions are tough."
He pointed to three factors: a downturn in consumer discretionary spending, inflationary cost pressures, and competition from global retail platforms.
Despite the administration, Resnick flagged the business as an acquisition target. "However for strategic or financial buyers, Stateside Sports represents a compelling acquisition opportunity being an established national retail brand with strong awareness, differentiated positioning and scalable e-commerce infrastructure."
The pre-sale process is expected to result in a leaner operating model with a reduced physical store footprint.
DVT Mcleods was formed in July 2025 through the merger of dVT Group and Mcleods, combining bases in New South Wales and Queensland.
