UK-born retailer Sports Direct has just opened its third Australian store in a nationwide expansion plan under local licensee Accent Group.

The new store is located at Westfield Miranda, and is the second location in New South Wales, following the opening of Chatswood Chase in March. The retailer’s third store is at Fountain Gate, Victoria.

The latest opening adds to a total of eight stores that are expected to be opened by the end of 2026.

"We knew this one was right as Miranda offers a thriving retail precinct and a growing customer base, making it an ideal location to bring Sports Direct's world leading range of sporting brands to more Australians," Accent Group CEO Daniel Agostinelli said.

While the store opens to customers today, Accent Group will launch a grand opening event on July 18 next weekend, featuring Cronulla Sharks players and community festivities.

The store will stock a range of sporting apparel and equipment across a variety of brands, including Nike, Adidas and Puma, alongside exclusive Sports Direct brands including USA Pro, Karrimor and Sondico.

Agostinelli added that the continued expansion reflects strong confidence in the Australian market.

"Australian consumers are passionate about sport and increasingly looking for value, choice and accessibility. Sports Direct offers a unique proposition that combines major global brands with exclusive labels and compelling value.”

The Sports Direct rollout comes as the retailer’s UK owner Frasers Group pushes through a takeover bid of Accent Group.
