Australian fashion businessman Solomon Lew has been appointed to the board of Myer as a non-executive director, effective September 24.

The board has also approved the appointment of Mark Middeldorf as Lew’s alternate director, effective from the same date.

At the time of acquiring Apparel Brands from Lew’s Premier Investments – Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Jacqui E, Dotti and Portmans – Myer Group had indicated that an invitation would be extended to Lew to join the board given the Lew Group would become Myer Group’s largest shareholder.

“We are pleased to welcome Sol to the board,” Myer Group executive chair Olivia Wirth said. “His deep retail expertise and strong economic alignment to Myer Group as our largest shareholder will be important in helping to drive long-term value creation for all our shareholders.

“Sol knows the retail sector inside and out. We are confident that the board and Myer Group will benefit greatly from his vast experience and expertise.”

Lew said he is looking forward to joining the board.

“There is significant change underway and many opportunities ahead, and I look forward to working with the board and management to help guide the group’s future direction.”
