Ragtrade wunderkind David Briskin has been appointed as the new Melbourne Fashion Festival chairman.

Briskin has been a director of the Festival’s board since August 2012.

He has extensive experience in retail, finance and investment as a director of a number of renowned Australian fashion brands over 20 years.

Briskin was CEO and shareholder in the iconic luxury fashion brand Sass & Bide from 2008 to 2014 before selling the business to Myer.

Prior to that, Briskin was MD and shareholder in leading accessories retailer Mimco from 1999 until its sale to Gresham Private Equity in 2007.

In February 2014, Briskin became a shareholder in and director of menswear retailer M.J. Bale.

He also founded Briskin Investments and Advisory, which provides strategic advice to a number of domestic and international brands.

“It is an extraordinary honour to have been offered this opportunity," he said.

"The Festival has achieved outstanding results and its executive performance, stakeholder stability and financial performance make it a compelling business benchmark.

"I’m excited by the opportunity, as chairman, to steer the Festival into its next phase of success, alongside its dedicated board of directors and Festival team.”

Briskin will replace Laura Anderson, who retires after a successful nine-year tenure.
