Australian fashion retailers Showpo, Surfstitch, Saba and The Academy Brand have signed up in support of the Australian retail industry intiative, The True Blue sale.
Comparison website finder.com.au has brought back the sale this Australia Day in support of local business and as a response to the growing number of customers shopping from international retailers.
Research, conducted by the website, revealed that 19% of Australians (3.5 million people) don't care or are unaware as to whether they are buying from local businesses.
It was also revealed that $4.2 billion is lost annually due to consumers purchasing from overseas websites.
Editor-in-chief at finder.com.au Angus Kidman warned consumers that they need to adopt a 'buy Australian' mentality.
Kidman said more than 60% of small businesses shut down within the first three years of opening.
Over 11,000 closed between 2011 and 2015, he added.
“It’s time for Aussies to get into the habit of actively looking for local options if we want to keep those dollars in our own backyard.
“If we don’t support our retail industry we could potentially see the loss of Aussie jobs, which would be detrimental to our economy.”
Running for 48 hours, the sale starts at 5pm on Wednesday 25 January.
