Rockport is tackling the nation's 'pandemic foot' with a new sneaker release.
Rockport sports podiatrist Emily Smith said Australians are experiencing a decrease in foot health as a result of extended lockdowns.
"Australians dramatically changed their footwear and exercise habits during lockdown. We found people were living in their lifestyle shoes including running shoes and Ugg Boots or going barefoot and training habits went from gym, class, and pool-based exercise, to pounding the pavement and clocking up thousands of steps.
Smith claimed the footwear habits have resulted in poor foot health.
"We have seen an increase in plantar fasciitis and heel spur cases, exacerbated by walking barefoot on hard surfaces and wearing poorly supported shoes, like thongs or slippers.
"Due to the severe change of exercise patterns to predominantly walking and running, we found there was a spike in bone stress injuries. With the inability to get appropriate imaging and management due to lockdowns, the importance of good supportive footwear has been highlighted."
Rockport's latest ProWalker NEXT sneaker is being marketed around these findings, featuring a higher profile and the brand's ActivSole.
The ProWalker is available in seven colour ways across two ranges.
This includes the NEXT Lace Up, available for $199.95 and featuring eco-friendly materials, as well as the NEXT Premium in leather at $219.95.
