Surfing retailer Rip Curl has paired up with denim label Abrand Jeans to launch a new range of 80s-inspired denimwear.

The new collaboration builds on the first launch between the two brands last year, with this new range selling across retail and online in Australia, Europe and the United States.

The range includes surf references reworked through baggy silhouettes and different washes, with styles for both men and women. This includes jackets, baggy jeans, tees, board shorts, crew tops, hoods for men, bomber jackets, skirts and shorts.

Prices range from $59.95 to $165.95.

“It’s epic to see Abrand Jeans’ co-founder and designer Andy Paltos and his crew come through our archives and put their denim twist on some iconic Rip Curl pieces,” Rip Curl head of men’s design Casey Egan said.

“All the pieces are pretty rad and the co-brand makes perfect sense for us.”

Abrand Jeans mens designer and developer Tasha Smith said she wanted to lean into the nostalgia, diving into past Rip Curl wetsuit details and graphics.

“I grew up in New Zealand with surf culture everywhere, in every direction,” Smith said.

“Alongside the rest of the Abrand Jeans team, it was exciting to work on this second round of our collab with Rip Curl.”

The collaboration between the two entities was managed by Asembl. The agency’s MD Justin Watson said both Rip Curl and Abrand Jeans are deeply rooted in Australian culture, adding the initial collaboration last year was a success, which led them to reunite.

In Australia, the range will be available from the Abrand Jeans website and select retailers including General Pants, Rip Curl and Surf, Dive and Ski.

This collaboration comes as Rip Curl’s parent company KMD Brands entertains possible suitors who are looking at buying parts of the company.
