An initiative designed to buoy the next generation of retail leaders has received added backing and a $15,000 pledge.

Industry association, the Retail Doctor Group has confirmed it will offer one year of coaching and development to the winner of the upcoming National Retail Association (NRA) Young Retailer of the Year Awards 2013, via a new Retail Doctor Group (RDG) Scholarship program.

The RDG Scholarship, valued at over $15,000, will be presented to a finalist at the NRA’s 40th Anniversary Young Retailer of the Year Awards 2013, which aims to recognise and reward outstanding young staff in the retail industry.

RDG has previously worked with a number of high profile retailers, including General Pants Group, G-Star Raw, Herringbone, and the Glassons Hallestein Group.

The winner will be mentored by RDG founder and CEO Brian Walker, with the recipient of the 2013 scholarship will to receive:

  • Retail tour to their store and other retailers to understand what it takes to be a truly ‘fit’ retail business.

  • Co-development of an individual growth and career development plan

  • Monthly mentoring sessions with Brian Walker to discuss and improve skills and expertise in the retail discipline.

  • Complimentary copies of collaborative research projects with RDG’s global retail expert network, Ebeltoft Group.

Commenting on its support of the NRA Young Retailer of the Year Awards, Walker said it is a privilege to be supporting the future of retail.

“There are some brilliant young retailers in this industry and we are pleased to promote retailing as a career choice. These are the next leaders of the retail industry and many of them will be joining our senior executive teams in years to come,” he said.
