In response to staff shortages across Australia, a group of Brisbane retailers has banded together to offer a unique recruiting experience called ‘speed interviewing’.
Like speed dating, the concept acts as a job-matching fair using short, 3-5 minute interviews to determine job suitability.
The inaugural ‘Speed Interviewing’ event took place on July 20 at Brookside Shopping Centre, with 12 retailers and over 120 candidates onboarded.
The organisers are planning to hold another event in the lead up to Christmas.
Brookside marketing manager Christian Polglase said the idea transpired after vendors struggled to stay open all day due to lack of staff.
“The event was an overwhelming success as judged by all the positive feedback we have received from both retailers and candidates.
“A lot of the jobseekers said they found it really helpful that they could go to the one place, speak to half a dozen retailers about half a dozen roles, all in 30 minutes.
“It’s such a different concept to the standard interview process.”
Candidate registration was compulsory via the Brookside website.
