An innovative digital art installation is set to take over this shopping destination - as it undergoes a radical renovation.
The Galeries has announced the launch of Trace, an installation set to take over its ground floor during the month of June.
The large-scale exhibition is a collaboration with Sydney designer and artist Thi Nguyen.
For Trace, Nguyen collaborated with creative technologiest Steven Bai to illuminate The Galeries with an interactive wall of light.
Large 10m wide by 2.5m high, LED screens feed on audience movement in order to produce a living artistic response manifested in dancing ripples of light.
Vistors are invited to pause, bend, throw and even clap in front of the exhibition and experience the colourful visual spectacle unique to their interaction.
The display will also continue to evolve naturally as its hues reflect different times of day and its configuration is designed to change over time.
The exhibition marks a period of change for The Galeries, as it undergoes several renovations.
The scheduled changes are part of the urban shopping hub’s long-term plans to ensure it remains at the forefront of retail with a culturally-driven offering.
As well as cosmetic updates the centre will welcome a slew of new retailers including recently opened cult lifestyle brand Muji, artisanal Italian shoe retailer 124, and popular eateries Lotus and Yayoi with more to be announced.
In conjunction with Trace, Nguyen is also exhibiting in The Galeries’ public art space, Lane Four.
The Revelation exhibition constructed of 52km of string is part of Lane Four’s 2015 program curated around the theme of “Transitions”.
The program will bring together several different artists over the next 8 months to present their unique interpretation of this concept.
