Australian beach shorts brand The Rocks Push is offering customers a discount in exchange for their old or unworn items.

From now until November 13, in anticipation of National Recycling Week from November 7-13, the store is appealing to its customers to send in their unwanted shorts, and in return they will be a given a $25 voucher to use on a new pair of shorts.

Company founder Kirsten Ainsworth said she is keen to see Australian men get proactive by recycling their old shorts – which will then be given to people through the Vinnies charity stores.

“With summer fast approaching and guys keen to look at purchasing new beach shorts, I could see an amazing opportunity to work with Vinnies for National Recycling Week,” Ainsworth said.

“So it's time to pull out those pre-loved and unworn shorts so someone else can put them to good use.”

Ainsworth said the campaign is to promote apparel recycling and to help reduce landfill.

Australians are the third biggest producers of landfill in the developed world, on a per capita basis, after the USA and Israel, and clothing is the third largest contributor to general household waste and landfill.
