Sporting goods retailer Rebel has launched a boot donation initiative in Adelaide in partnership with the Australian Football League and national recycler TreadLightly.

'Reboot Your Boots' launches during this week’s AFL Gather Round - from April 4 to April 7 - as a pop-up activation in Adelaide’s Rundle Mall.

Patrons who donate their shoes at the pop-up will go in the draw to win two tickets, flights, and accommodation to attend the 2024 Toyota AFL Grand Final.

Pre-loved boots donated during the drive will be sorted, cleaned and repaired by TreadLightly before distributing them to young players in regional communities in the Northern Territory.

“Our vision at Rebel is to inspire all Australians to achieve their sporting dreams and passions,” GM of e-commerce and marketing Rosemary Martin said. “We want to give all Aussies the support, tools, and gear to get moving and realise the transformative power of sport.”

Australian Sporting Goods Association executive director Shaun Bajada said ASGA and its member sporting brands, including Rebel, are always looking for opportunities to expand its circularity initiatives.

“The Rebel 'Reboot Your Boots' initiative is another step forward that allows more Australians to reduce their environmental footprint, while also increasing sports participation,” Bajada said.

The 'Reboot Your Boots' pop-up will be at the Pulteney Street end of the Rundle Street Mall.
