Streetwear label Realism is set to descend on Blues Point Reserve in North Sydney on Friday, giving away more than $100,000 worth of free clothing from the back of a truck.

From 4:30pm, the brand will throw 601 pieces of hoodies, pants, jackets and accessories, individually valued between $135 and $230, into the crowd until stock runs out. The activation's centrepiece is a giant 100XL hoodie the brand describes as potentially the world's biggest, built large enough for a crowd to climb inside – an image Realism has previously turned into a social media moment.

The brand has run similar drops before. A comparable giveaway at Realism's Melbourne Central store drew crowds large enough that police were called in to manage safety. For the Sydney event, licensed security will be on site enforcing a clear exclusion zone around the truck.

Realism is also running a same-day social media competition, offering $1,000 of store merchandise to whoever posts the best content from the event and tags the brand, with a winner announced that evening.

The giveaway kicks off a bigger Sydney weekend for the label. On Saturday, September 26, Realism opens its new Parramatta store, with a further 150 pieces on offer – 100 exclusive hoodies for the first customers through the door and 50 exclusive tees for the next in line, none of it available for sale elsewhere – alongside a spinning wheel offering free hoodies, sweatpants and $250 vouchers.

Realism founder and CEO Edwin Low framed the Sydney push as an extension of the brand's Melbourne playbook.

"We don't do quiet launches,” Low said. “Every time we've done something like this at home it's turned into one of those moments people talk about for weeks, and we wanted Sydney to get exactly the same version of Realism, not a watered down one.”

Low has reportedly grown Realism to eight-figure annual revenue in just over four years, with four stores now open and international expansion underway.
