Creations by Australian designer Therese Rawsthorne hit the runway at 9am this morning, beginning day two of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week (RAFW).

Rachel Gilbert will be next on the Rosemount runway, with a 10am showing of her latest collection, followed by Sara Phillips at 11am.

Phillips has drawn inspiration from native Australian flora and fauna for her spring/summer 2011/12 collection. The pieces zone in on soft tailoring with numerous prints livening the range, and a heavy use of natural fibres such as linen, cotton and textured silks.

Designer Gail Elliott's label Little Joe Woman will show at 12pm, revealing a 60+ collection with a bohemian luxe vibe.

The “Love In Exile” range melds flowing garments, clean lines and tailoring to create a modern yet relaxed look and Elliott has introduced leather and suede fabrics this year, as well as a selection of blazers and skinny leg pants.

The collection also sees Elliott branch out into prints, with a series of designs in colours of purple, blue, camouflage, flesh tones and white, peppering the range.

“Our prints are all designed in-house exclusively by Little Joe Woman for Little Joe Woman, which gives us a lot of creative freedom, and this season they are quite bold and striking with an amazing butterfly print that is one of the key prints this season,” Ellitott said.

“A designer’s collection is always a transition of a previous season. There have to be some common elements when designing, otherwise it can be easy to lose the essence of a brand. However in saying that, Little Joe Woman has also taken a step forward by introducing new shapes, and design techniques this season to really showcase another side of the label.”

Other highlights for the day include Manning Cartell at 1pm, Nookie at 4.30pm, Carl Kapp at 5.30pm and Marnie Skillings at 7.30pm.

New Zealand designer Kate Sylvester will finish the day with an 8.30pm showing of her spring/summer collection which she describes as “beautiful, atmospheric and dirty”. The range, comprised of more than 30 pieces, will see inspiration drawn from images of moths and motorcross translate to washed silks and soft viscose. Moody, dusty tones rule supreme, interspersed with shots of vivid colour.

“Summer 10 was charming and fresh, summer 11 is more moody and sexy,” Sylvester said.
