Australian design maven Lisa Ho kicks off the third day of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, with Michael Lo Sordo, Alice McCall and Bianca Spender also set to hit the runway later today.
Sydney-based label Talulah will also show at 10am, showcasing a collection with a strong focus on natural fabrications of soft rayons and linens in a palette of washed chalks, corals, sky greys, and olives.
According to designer Kelli Wharton, inspiration her spring/summer range came from “the artisan craftsmanship of the '70s, the basket platting/weaving techniques from Moroccan markets and the a walk throughout the Medina in Marrakesh on dusk”.
She said the collection of 40 pieces was constructed using various techniques such as smocking, weaving, dip dyeing, platting, macramé and pleating and will feature an array of “loose tent styles dresses and bustier strapless frocks, focussed on beautiful finished with plain silhouettes”.
Other highlights throughout the day include Michael Lo Sordo at 2.30pm, which evokes the evolution of the label.
Lo Sordo said tailored pieces will remain the 'heroes' of his collection, and describes his RAFW creations as “chic, Minimal and Luxurious with a sense of lightness, fluidity and innocence”.
“This is an evolution. Our direction as a label is morphing into one that will embody sophistication but with a distinct innocence,” he said.
The Swim & Resort Wear group will show at 3.30pm, including Terri Donna, with a collection which designer Terri Winyard describes as “fun and flirty. The range is separated into four ranges, titled the Palm collection, Dawn collection, Zigzag collection and the Tassy collection.
“The palm and dawn collections have both been inspired by the beautiful flora and fauna which envelopes Australia and its coastlines. The Zigzag and Tassy collections were inspired by the 70’s surf scene, the colours, prints and shapes, taken with a contemporary spin.” Winyard said.
“There will be approximately 12 to 15 pieces featured in RAFW, and this will be made up of pieces from all four collections. Mostly swimwear, however we will feature a few of the cover-ups as well. But the hero pieces for SS11 are Tassy classic full-pieces with lace panels on the side – perfect for summer festivals, or can be worn as a body suit and styled to be day wear.”
Bianca Spender will also showcase her collection (Cargo Theatre at 4.30pm) which reflects the period during 1910 and 1914 with modernist, abstract, sculptural and geometric pieces.
Dhini will hit the runway at 5.30pm, followed Gary Bigeni and Alice McCall at 6.30pm and 7.30pm respectively. Camilla and Marc will close the third day of RAFW with a show at an off site location.
