Feedback from shop tenants and landlords is being sort for a review of the Retail Shop Leases Act.
The Queensland Government has released a discussion paper concerning the statutory review of the 1994 act and submissions are due by January 30.
The objective of the act is to promote efficiency and equity in the conduct of certain retail businesses in Queensland - through mandatory minimum standards for retail shop leases.
Comments are being sought on topics such as whether the act’s objective and methods are still relevant, if the current definitions in the act are adequate and appropriate for the Queensland retail leasing environment, and whether the provisions about confidentiality of turnover information are suitable.
Feedback is also encouraged from tenants or landlords whose retail shop premises, building or shopping centre was damaged in the Queensland floods.
