The National Retail Association (NRA) and the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection are continuing to work toward the state's proposed plastic bag ban.
The state-wide ban, which is set to come into effect 1 July 2018, will target the supply of lightweight plastic shopping bags.
NRA manager of industry policy David Stout said he will continue to consult closely with the industry.
“A ban on the supply of lightweight plastic shopping bags will obviously impact on the way retailers do business, so consultation is key to making sure the ban is implemented as smoothly as possible.”
Stout was aware of the impact this would have on retailers, urging them to contribute to the recently released public discussion paper, which can be found here.
“We have until 1 July 2018 until this ban is planned to come into effect and it is important that we use the intervening period to help retailers and consumers adequately prepare for this environmental reform.”
