Global sports brand Puma has partnered with the AFL Record to temporarily rename the iconic matchday publication to "The Scott Pendlebury" ahead of the Collingwood captain's record-breaking 433rd AFL game this weekend.
The commemorative edition marks the first official rebrand of the AFL Record in its 114-year history, with 5,000 copies being made available for purchase at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday. The masthead will feature a full front and back cover takeover, alongside editorial content and imagery from AFL Media's lead photographer, Michael Willson.
Vendors outside the MCG will swap their usual calls of "Get your Footy Record" for "Get your Scott Pendlebury," and will don custom Puma-branded t-shirts and caps for the occasion. Pendlebury will also wear a custom pair of Puma boots for the milestone game.
Puma has been a player partner of Pendlebury since 2015.
"For nearly two decades, Scott has set the standard for elite performance, leadership and consistency, so we wanted to do something unique to mark his incredible milestone,” Puma Oceania director of marketing Neysa Goh said. “Bringing together two icons of football felt like a fitting tribute."
Pendlebury added that he loved reading the AFL record since he was a kid, making this moment “pretty surreal”.
“I've been blown away by all the support not just this week but throughout my career, and to have major brands like Puma backing me from the beginning has been amazing."
