Trend forecasting powerhouse WGSN showcased the power of data in an exclusive presentation at Ragtrader Live.
WGSN Instock head of product Brendan Moran demonstrated how domestic fashion retailers can better manage risk in forward planned ranges by analysing global counterparts.
One such example is The Kimono trend, one of the biggest fashion successes for the young fashion market in the UK this summer.
Using WGSN InStock technology, Moran tracked the trend among the major High Street players.
First to drop the kimono top was River Island in early March, followed by Asos, New Look, Missguided and TopShop.
New Look had the heaviest kimono offering at the start of the season but heading into winter, Asos has surpassed that at 161 styles, which is 30 per cent of its total top category.
In Australia, The Iconic is the only retailer in Instock’s Australian universe to drop in the kimono top so far.
“Although this is a young fashion item – we believe its influence is huge and worth watching for next autumn,” Moran said.
“It is an opportunity to add newness across a wider demographic by referencing it across blouses and dresses for autumn 2015.”
