Salesian College in Chadstone, Melbourne has become the first school in Australia to roll out a school uniform collection, which has been created by fashion designer Peter Morrissey and Uniform Group.

This comes as Morrissey has been formally appointed as design ambassador for Uniform Group.

The uniforms have been designed exclusively for Salesian College under the Uniform Group’s Academy Uniform brand, following a collaborative process involving students, staff and parents.

Each piece was created with attention to heritage elements found in the College’s archives, an approach Morrissey said is key to meaningful, lasting design.

“We don’t just create uniforms, we create Wardrobe Collections,” Morrissey said.

“When I sat down with the Salesian team, I wanted to honour the school’s history while ensuring students today feel empowered by what they wear. This isn’t just a uniform, it’s a badge of honour, a reflection of self-worth and community.”

Uniform Group operates a vertically integrated model, with the new move with Salesian coming as the global uniform market size is projected to hit US$32.3 billion by 2026, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.3 per cent. This is according to a new market research report by Business Research Insights.

Uniform Group CEO Adam Wilkinson said Salesian College in Chadstone is helping lead the next generation of schoolwear.

“By combining Peter Morrissey’s design expertise with our manufacturing and logistics capabilities, we’ve created a system that gives schools access to bespoke, high-quality uniforms that are also accessible and sustainable.”

The new Salesian College Chadstone uniform will be introduced across the school starting on December 1.

Salesian College principal Mark Ashmore called it a proud moment for the school.

“As a community, we see the uniform as an outward reflection of who we are, modern, values-led, and forward-thinking,” he said.

“With Chadstone, the fashion capital of Australia, quite literally around the corner, it made sense for us to collaborate with one of the country’s most iconic designers. We want our students to feel confident and proud every day they put on their uniform.”

Academy Uniforms have been providing uniforms to Salesian College for over 25 years.

Uniform Group services over 700 schools nationwide through brands such as PSW and Academy Uniforms, and holds exclusive teamwear licences for major names like Puma.
