The inaugural 2011 Perth Fashion Week (PFW), initially announced to take place in May 2011, has been moved to February 2012.
The official dates for the February 2012 event, which was previously meant to run from May 25-29, 2011, are as yet undisclosed.
Despite the last minute decision to change dates, PFW director Sylvia Giacci said the move was a strategic one to ensure PFW would be bigger than initially envisaged.
“The move to February next year is primarily to accommodate partner and sponsor opportunities that PFW have arisen, and secondly the new date has better timing with collection buying seasons,” she said.
February 2012 is the buying season for spring/summer 2012/13 and trails New York Fashion Week.
Giacci said PFW is primarily a trade event, created to lift the profiles of WA designers, enhance sales and assist them in finding stockists. Attendees for the event next year will include buyers Australia-wide from large department stores to small retail store owners, models and designers and there are plans to attract an international contingent in future.
