Patagonia employees around the world joined the Global Climate Strike on 20 September after the outdoor apparel brand announced it would be closing stores and offices globally to encourage employees to join the protest.

The southern hemisphere kicked off the strike globally, with Australian Patagonia employees joining the estimated 300,000 Australians protesting across the nation.

The brand is also encouraging Australians to take action via its website by sending a message to Anthony Albanese and Scott Morrison to stop delaying action on climate change.

To drive the point home, Patagonia supported its message with a significant advertising campaign that showed up along strike routes in select cities around the world and across print, digital and social media platforms.

The campaign features photos with "facing extinction" emblazoned across the faces of youth activists who are facing the climate crisis head-on by striking from school, protesting and calling on elected officials to take action.

President and CEO of Patagonia Rose Marcario said that everyone must stress the importance of climate action to their elected leaders.

"We all must make it clear to our elected leaders that there is no room in government for climate deniers and their inaction is killing us.

"We need our leaders to act on the science and follow the market forces—do their jobs and create policies that protect our planet and our communities.

"Our customers are demanding we act—this generation of youth is not backing down and neither should we," she said.

The Global Climate Strike took place on September 20, three days ahead of the UN's Emergency Climate Summit and was inspired by the actions of Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg.
