Patagonia is marking its 50th year of business with a number of initiatives across Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand.
The outdoor apparel brand is preparing to open its first flagship store in Aotearoa/New Zealand in Queenstown in mid-2023.
“More than anything, we're taking this moment in our company's history to look forward,” Patagonia Australia and New Zealand country director Dane O’Shanassy said. “If we have any hope of a thriving planet 50 years from now, it demands all of us doing all we can with the resources we have to protect this wondrous place. Forget Mars and the metaverse."
This year, the brand will continue its ‘Thanks You for Not Chopping Here’ campaign to end native forest logging in Victoria’s Central Highlands and create the Great Forest National Park.
Patagonia will also continue advocating activism through providing ways for people to volunteer in local causes.
It said the foundation of these relationships is its ‘1% for the Planet’ environmental grants program that it has been running since 2013. Since inception, it has approved more than 120 grants to grassroots organisations based in Australia and New Zealand.
