A competition backed by a local fashion chain is offering emerging designers the chance to have their designs made and sold around the world – for free.
The 1% Glue Fashion Design Awards, the latest addition to the Superglue and Glue store empire, aim to give young designers a chance to win a paid design internship and cash in on their designs.
The competition, titled on the premise that “the difference between talent and success is one per cent luck”, will comprise of two rounds, with the first round open from now until February 14, 2013.
Following the first round, the judges – including Superglue store buyers, designer Becky Cooper from Australian label Bec&Bridge and Alyx Gorman, editor of The Vine – will choose a shortlist of 40.
In the second round the top 40 shortlist entries will be further scrutinised and each designer may be contacted for interviews.
The final winner will join the Superglue and Glue design team with the opportunity to stay on permanently.
In addition, they will also have their designs produced, distributed and sold to the world throughout Superglue and Glue Australia with all rights and revenue remaining with the winning designer.
To be eligible for the prize, entrants are required to create a four to six piece capsule collection of original and unreleased fashion designs.
The entrant will then be judged on the designs, the feasibility of production and their social media promotion of the entry.
