The Argyle mine in Western Australia, the source of almost all the pink diamonds on the planet, has ceased production this week.

It is the source of 95 percent of the world’s pink diamonds.

Musson Jewellers is one of just 35 'Argyle Pink Diamond Select Ateliers' worldwide, chosen to sell Argyle Pink Diamonds.

Creative director Olivar Musson, a leading expert in Argyle Pinks as both a gemmologist and designer, began working with Argyle Pink diamonds 25 years ago.

“The amazing coloured gems of the Kimberley took the world by surprise. It took a few years to understand how to best work with them,” he said.

They were of a colour and quality never seen before on the planet. Argyle Pinks have increased in value by 500 percent since the Argyle Mine first started producing them in 1983.

Now the mine is closing, the value of Argyle Pink Diamonds is set to explode.

“In another decade the Argyle Pink Diamond will emerge as the new Faberge egg, the thing jewellery myths are made of," jewellery historian Vivienne Becker said.

The Pink Diamond is so rare, it took the Argyle mine 15 years to yield enough Pink Diamonds to fill a champagne flute.
