The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) and Myer have officially announced model and media personality Rebecca Harding as the 2017 Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador.

Harding, 26, has said she is delighted to be the new face of the Myer Fashions on the Field competition.

“It is such an honour to be representing the VRC and Myer this year,” she said.

“As a Melbourne girl I love putting together spring racewear looks and being trackside at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, so I can’t wait."

According to the Victoria Racing Club, consumers spent $44.3 million on fashion and accessories for last year's Melbourne Cup carnival.

In 2016, people purchased 295,397 fashion items, including 49,067 pairs of shoes, 46,448 dresses, 11,659 suits and 59,665 hats and fascinators.

As Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador Harding, who is signed with The Talent Büro, will step out in key spring racewear looks from Myer.

“Racewear is all about elegance and finding fun ways to inject a bit of your own flair and personality into your look. I’ll be turning to some of Australia’s most sought after designers like Nicola Finetti, Yeojin Bae and Asilio to find the perfect spring raceday looks,” she said.

“And there are so many amazing Australian milliners who are creating magical pieces like Viktoria Novak, Nerida Winter and Lady of Leisure. I’ll be turning to them to add colour and texture to my Melbourne Cup Carnival outfits.”

VRC executive Caroline Ralphsmith said Harding is the perfect candidate for the Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador role this year.

“We are delighted to announce Rebecca as this year’s Ambassador to represent the prestigious competition at Flemington,” she said.

“Rebecca brings a wealth of style and substance to the role, having worked in the fashion industry for many years as a model and in public relations.”

Harding’s first official appearance will be at Flemington on September 13 for the annual Myer spring fashion launch.

Now in its 55th year Myer Fashions on the Field commences on AAMI Victoria Derby Day and continues on Emirates Melbourne Cup Day and Kennedy Oaks Day.
