New York City’s heritage eyewear brand Moscot has opened its first shop in Australia, located in Melbourne.
The new store brings the brand’s total store count globally to 34, including 11 across NYC, and others across Europe and Asia.
Located along Chapel Street in South Yarra, the new store joins a host of other fashion and accessories retailers, including the likes of Zimmermann, SABA, Decjuba and Peter Alexander.
“For years, our Australian customers have travelled internationally to shop at Moscot, and we’re thrilled to finally offer them the full Moscot experience right here in Melbourne,” CEO and 4th generation Dr. Harvey Moscot said.
“South Yarra’s mix of history, creativity, and style aligns perfectly with our brand, and we’re excited to welcome both longtime fans and new customers into the Moscot family.”
Moscot Melbourne features many of the same elements as the original Lower East Side Shop in Manhattan, New York. The layout covers 98 square metres, and features old-school tin ceilings, vintage tchotchkes, historical artifacts, and New York-centric paraphernalia.
The brand’s core ranges cover both eyeglasses and sunglasses, with prices in the mid triple digits. The brand sells to Australia through online and a select curation of local stockists.
Zack Moscot, 5th generation and chief design officer, said Melbourne and New York share similar DNA, both known for their creativity and diversity.
“Bringing Moscot to Australia has been a long time coming, and we couldn’t think of a better city to introduce our Lower East Side charm and craftsmanship to than Melbourne.”
