A fresh event, devised to help emerging designers crack the industry, is on its way.
Creatives Uncovered, supported by [yellowtail], is the brainchild of event company Chic Petite Events with the first 2013 instalment set to mark a change of direction for the fair.
Described as “a mash-up of creatives bringing together art, music, photography, design, fashion styling and installation in a public exhibition”, Creatives Uncovered will commence as a regular quarterly event this year.
Sharon Garrard from Chic Petite Events said the first 2013 event, which will run from February 6 to February 9, provides an opportunity for emerging fashion designers to showcase their wares along other creatives and also network for the future.
“We like to say our event is not about red carpets and 'D list' celebrities - it's about the stars of tomorrow. We like to concentrate on emerging talent, so no big designers,” she said.
“Most of the designers that do the event, don't have a lookbook, website, images and have no idea about marketing. They also don't have many contacts with online fashion wesbites, photographers/models/hair and/or make-up artists.
“[Therefore] our event company also offers marketing for designers helping them with networking, contacts and creating lookbooks, from the shoot to the print.”
Garrard added that, in addition to providing a platform for young designers to showcase collections, entrants also receive high resolution images and video footage to promote themselves after the event.
“We have a networking day when designers can meet everyone involved, help with the shoot, and choose their own look/model/location,” Garrard said.
“This is usually their first step into the industry and, unfortunately, there are no guarantees with buyers attending so we don't promise this like other events. We do invite buyers, however, and have a large database of media contacts.
"We have also been lucky in the past to have great support from the media, so we also try and get them [designrs] in the local media and organise the shoot if they are successful.”
Overall, emerging designers participating in the event will also have the opportunity to be part of a catwalk show, installation, live interactive fashion photoshoot, and displays for wearable art and accessories.
The event will be held over four days at Sydney’s Tortuga studios at St Peters.
