The head of a local streetwear giant has revealed plans for the brand to go global.
Speaking exclusively to Ragtrader [March 2014 print edition], General Pants CEO Craig King said the chain retailer is considering international expansion.
King said the key target market for initial expansion at this stage would be the West Coast of the US, such as Los Angeles, where the “culture and climate resembles Australia a bit more”.
“For the first time we are also starting to look at international expansion if we get everything sorted here at home. We think our model is reasonably global. I think anyone who can be competitive now in this market, has the potential to also expand to other locations where the populations are much greater and where the conditions may be more friendly,” King said.
“We just need to make sure General Pants is water-tight and rock-solid here and then look to transplant it into some over regions.”
King said General Pants will first look to commercialise and monetise the General Pants Kiosks, following the great success of the first trial of Kiosks.
New store concepts, based around collaborations which have been successful for the retailer, could also be on the cards, before turning its attention to global moves sometime next year.
“There's a lot of exciting stuff going on in the marketplace,” King said.
