A newly established order, led by the head of Vogue Australia, will soon crown the country's next fashion design star.

Australia’s emerging fashion talent, aspiring to grow their businesses, have been issued a call to action as the second annual BT Emerging Fashion Designer Award opens for entry.

This year, the 2014 BT Award has joined forces with the Australian Fashion Chamber (AFC).

The group is a newly established collaboration of industry professionals with the goal of strengthening the influence and success of Australian fashion in the global economy.

Led by Edwina McCann, editor in chief of Vogue Australia, the AFC worked with BT to establish judging criteria for the winning designer.

Applications for the 2014 BT Award instalment close on January 31, 2014 with Australian fashion designers established less than seven years with a turnover under $2 million eligible to compete for the Award.

The winning emerging Australian fashion designer will be awarded a $10,000 cash grant, in addition to a year’s financial planning services provided by BT and two return business class flights to New York provided by Virgin Australia to further their fashion ambitions.

The winner will also receive two mentoring sessions with two fashion industry icons provided by the Australian Fashion Chamber. The total value of the prize is $40,000.

Christopher Esber, the inaugural winner of the Award in 2013, said the benefits reaped from his Award win have helped him grow his business.

“Winning the BT award really helped with my business' growth, and having support with putting strategic plans in place for my business,” Esber said.
