Aspiring Australian designers will be offered the opportunity to win a prize package in excess of $20,000 this month via a new competition aimed at at discovering the nation's most promising new label.
The 'Launch Your Label' initiative, created by online retailer Oneweardesigns.com, will open for first-ever applications on Sunday April 15, and will see a panel of judges and mentors from the fashion industry select one of Australia's fledgling fashion labels for investment.
Judges include shoe designer Terry Biviano, fashion designers Peter Morrissey and Gail Elliott of local label Little Joe, Eva Galambos, owner of Parlour X boutique, Nikki Hager, founder of footwear label Peep Toe Shoes, as well as fashion journalists Justine Cullen, editor of magazine Shop Til You Drop, Glynis Trail-Nash of The Sunday Telegraph, and Melissa Hoyer.
The competition, open to anyone over the age of 18, will be judged on technical skill, design, creativity, business acumen and commitment and will see the winning designer receive a prize package worth over $20,000.
The prize package will include a full page in Shop Til You Drop magazine promoting their brand, a leading designer mentorship, a boutique on the Oneweardesigns.com website, a three month start-up marketing package and a cash prize.
The winner will also be announced at a VIP event on August 29, 2012 in front of Sydney’s fashion and media elite.

Oneweardesigns.com aws launched in October 2011 by founder Lara Petrou. The site operates as a web platform designed for fashionistas to buy, sell or swap brand new and pre-loved designer clothing in an environment dedicated to fashion.
