American merchandise retailer NBA Store is tapping into a weekend of basketball in Victoria with an in-store activation at its Emporium Melbourne store.
On Saturday, October 4, the apparel and lifestyle retailer will host a selection of sporting icons, alongside live DJ sets, MC-hosted activities and Q&As with Australia’s NBL broadcaster Peter Hooley, exclusive in-store offers and giveaways.
The event coincides with the NBA’s first-ever games on Australian soil. The New Orleans Pelicans will face off against local NBL teams, Melbourne United (Friday, October3 ) and South East Melbourne Phoenix (Sunday, October 5).
Two-time NBA Champion and Hall of Famer, Ray Allen will visit the store, alongside local talent including former NBL player Jason Cadee and AFL players Jack Ginnivan and Zak Butters, all appearing throughout the day.
Included within the weekend event is SlamPay, which is a 10-foot-high interactive payment sensor where players must jump and “slam”. If the buzzer goes off, a special promotional offer will be unlocked.
“SlamPay is our proof that bricks-and-mortar can still surprise you,” 2045 executive creative director Christopher McKee said. “We’re swapping ‘tap to pay’ for ‘jump to pay’.
“It’s a five-second moment that puts a grin on your face, and that’s what good retail should do. It’s quick, it’s fun, and it gives fans a reason to step off the feed and into the store.”
Customers will also be offered promotions from Nike, Mitchell & Ness and Outerstuff, including limited-time discounts on jerseys and free special-edition posters with any purchase.
