Myer has announced the temporary closure of its Warringah Mall store to accelerate a $600 million redevelopment.

From February 2016 the store on Sydney's northern beaches will shut down and undergo refurbishment so that it's open in time for Christmas 2016.

The transformation is part of the New Myer strategy which was unveiled earlier this year.

Myer CEO Richard Umbers said that its Warringah store will be the first major rejuvination as part of the strategy.

“The Warringah store will be the first major store refurbishment of our New Myer strategy and is part of our greater than $600 million investment across the business to deliver a sharper and more focused offer to our customer.

“This is the first opportunity for us to showcase a fully refurbished New Myer store, specifically tailored to the casual and cool lifestyle of Sydney’s northern beaches.”

The company's longterm vision will aim to execute an increase in sales per square metre of 20% by 2020.

Myer Warringah will house a range of international fashion brands such as Topshop Topman, French Connection, Scotch & Soda and Jack & Jones.

Umbers has also revealed that the store could potentially feature unique aspects to its current offering.

“We’re also looking at exciting options to bring unique and wanted services in-store including talking to local community operators about cafes and pop up shops.

“Our team members are our priority and we have talked through these changes with them.

"We will be holding discussions with team members regarding alternative employment arrangements for them.”
