Department store Myer has just revealed changes to its store network as part of its “Growth Strategy”, which involves closing a store in Sydney’s South West and overhauling another just north of Perth CBD.
In a statement, a Myer spokesperson confirmed with Ragtrader that it will upgrade its Myer Morley store in Perth and shut down its Roselands store. “This is to ensure we have the right store network, which is efficient, sustainable and provides a firm foundation for growth,” they said.
The Morley store upgrades will be completed ahead of peak trading later this year, with the refurbishment including an upgraded beauty hall, new Myer exclusive showcases, refurbished fitting rooms and improved lighting. The works also coincide with renovations being undertaken by Galleria Centre’s owner Vicinity, which include new escalators in the store.
Works to upgrade the store will begin in May and are expected to be completed by the end of October with customers able to shop Myer Perth City, Joondalup and Carousel during the works.
As for the closure of Roselands, the Myer Group decided not to renew its lease of the site when it expires at the end of July this year.
Roselands will continue to trade through to the end of July with a closing down sale offering discounts across all ranges and categories in store.
“We will shortly begin consultation with store team members, with our first priority to look at redeployment opportunities in the Myer and Apparel Brands store network,” the company noted. This follows recent job cuts across Myer’s Apparel Brands portfolio earlier this year, resulting in around 40 jobs gone across management roles.
Customers will still be able to shop at Myer Bankstown, 3.5 kilometres away from Roselands, or at its Miranda and Liverpool stores.
“The Myer Group continues to invest in the store experience with detailed plans underway for the refurbishment of Myer Sydney’s beauty hall, the roll out of 14 Just Jeans stores of the future and expanded Just Jeans into seven stores formerly operated by Jeanswest,” the spokesperson added.
“As of February 3, Myer operates 56 department stores and more than 700 Apparel Brands stores consisting of Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Dotti, Jacqui E and Portmans.
