Myer's last executive appointment made national headlines for all the wrong reasons - but the department store is ready to move on.

Myer has announced the appointment of Gary Williams as executive general manager strategic planning and business development.

The company was forced to sack Andrew Flanagan in a similar role last month, after it was revealed his CV did not stand up to scrutiny.

Flanagan falsely claimed to be a former managing director and vice-president of Inditex Group, the giant behind Zara.

Williams has been with Westfield for the past nine years and is currently senior executive vice president Westfield Property Group, based in the United States.

He has also worked as managing director at Coca-Cola Australia and had roles at Puma and Reebok.

Williams will be responsible for developing Myer's strategy and identifying and progressing new business opportunities.

Williams will commence in his role with Myer at the start of August.
