Department store Myer has boosted its management board as it looks towards growth in 2014.

The company today confirmed the appointment of two non-executive directors – Ian Cornell and Robert Thorn – to its board.

The move will see Myer add more retail expertise to its management team, with Cornell the former Franklins chief and Thorn previously managing director of Super Retail Group.

Commenting on the appointments, Myer chairman Paul McClintock said Cornell and Thorn will assist Myer in achieving its business goals going forward.

“For some time we have been working towards a further strengthening of the board and these appointments complete that work.

“Given the opportunities and the challenges facing our business in the changing global environment, it is important that the structure and capabilities of the board are regularly refreshed.

“With Bob and Ian on board, we are now even better-positioned to carry out our five-point strategic plan, and to maximise opportunities to drive the long-term sustainability of the Myer business.”
