The former general manager of Just Jeans, Matt McCormack, is returning to the Just Group portfolio, appointed as managing director of the Apparel Brands under Myer.
The Apparel Brands include Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Jacqui E, Dotti and Portmans.
Myer executive chair Olivia Wirth confirmed the news in an internal email to staff, calling McCormack a highly regarded and accomplished senior leader with decades of retail experience.
McCormack began his retail career as a buyer at Myer 3o years ago. From there, he shifted over to David Jones in much the same role, eventually focusing on menswear. In the mid-2000s, he moved to London to continue his buyer career at the likes of Moss Bros Group, House of Fraser and John Lewis, and returned to Australia in 2013 to take up a lead role at Just Jeans.
Most recently, after leaving Just Jeans in 2023, McCormack was the international president of womenswear brand Aje, focusing on the Australian label’s global wholesale and retail strategy, and reportedly delivering double-digit growth across that remit.
“Matt will be a familiar face to many across Apparel Brands when he joins us on 31 August,” Wirth shared in the email. “Matt will complete a short handover in the lead up to this date, with the current managing director of Apparel Brands, Teresa Rendo, whose resignation was announced late last year.
“Teresa joined Apparel Brands in 2022 and has played an important role in guiding the integration of Apparel Brands into the Myer Group, including the rollout of MYER one across Just Jeans, Jay Jays, Dotti, Jacqui E and Portmans.
“Please join me in thanking Teresa for her contribution and warmly welcoming Matt back to Apparel Brands and the Myer Group.”
McCormack joins Apparel Brands after the segment reported a 0.6 per cent sales lift in the first half of FY26 to $404 million, with comparable store sales up 2.6 per cent.
Apparel Brands’ sales momentum then slipped in the first seven weeks of the second half by 0.4 per cent.
Myer noted the more recent sales slip was mixed across the five brands, with Just Jeans being a standout performer with its sales up 9.8 per cent.
