Global stationery and accessories label Montblanc has opened a flagship store in Sydney, marking a new chapter for the maison in the Australian market.

Montblanc CEO Giorgio Sarné said the new George Street flagship – housed in a heritage-listed building – is a key milestone, being the first Australian flagship for the brand, adding to its Oceania presence.

“We are proud to now call this distinguished heritage-listed building home, a space that beautifully harmonises our Maison’s enduring legacy with the city’s rich history,” Sarné said. “We look forward to our clients experiencing the Montblanc universe in this wonderful new location, where they can discover our savoir-faire and rich heritage in writing culture.”

The new store adds to over 600 Montblanc boutiques worldwide. The luxury label is housed under the Richemont group, which manages 24 Maisons and other businesses, including Cartier, Piaget, Chloé and Van Cleef & Arpels.

In Australia, Montblanc now manages five locations, including one in Perth, two in Melbourne and another in Brisbane. The brand also has one store in New Zealand.

The Sydney flagship boutique keeps the original iron pillars, aged brickwork, structural trusses and an overall restored black-and-white facade. These historic elements are integrated with Montblanc’s design language.

The opening also includes Meisterstück-inspired door handles featuring the signature three-ring detailing and resin finishes. Inside, a sculptural paper chandelier hangs, with smaller paper chandeliers continuing this motif throughout the boutique. Transformed paper walls are sculpted and hand-finished with flowing textures.

Wooden flooring and custom-crafted furniture make up the space.

The flagship is housed across two floors. Over the staircase near the back of the store is a mural created in collaboration with Wiradjuri poet and artist Jazz Money, and local calligrapher and illustrator Sam Pauletto. The artwork is inspired by the Australian Gum Tree and ancient storytelling traditions.

The first floor includes a library-inspired lounge area, as well as private VIP rooms around an interactive writing desk designed by Montblanc’s artistic director, Marco Tomassetta. The space is framed by fluted glass doors, inspired by ink bottles
