Sydney-based designers and sisters Milly and Kobe Kan have launched a slow-fashion womenswear label called MNK Atelier.

The brand’s inaugural 16-piece collection focuses on sustainable design, with natural fibres sourced exclusively from Japan, including Japanese cotton with floral patterns woven in a Karami jacquard.

The range also includes 100% recycled Japanese PET bottles, with a suede-satin finish, as well as Japanese organic cotton ‘Yoryu’.

The latter is a non-dyed crinkled fabric, meaning the colour is in its natural state, with a blend of the traditional Japanese paper ‘Washi’ and organic cotton.

MNK Atelier said only a limited number of pieces will be produced per collection to reduce waste and discourage overconsumption.

“Our goal with MNK Atelier is to defy the perception that simplicity equals boring with womenswear,” co-founders Milly and Kobe Kan said. “Our first collection sees pieces that are uniquely designed to be worn individually, but also mixed and matched with each other.”

MNK Atelier’s pricing starts at $295, with its range sold online.
