An Australian fashion industry powerbroker who founded a multi-million dollar retail empire is rolling out a new concept.

Amanda Briskin-Rettig, founder and former creative director of accessory chain Mimco, has opened a Melbourne store for her A-Esque brand in Collins Street, Melbourne.

It is the label’s first CBD outlet, following the opening of its inaugural store at 553 Chapel Street South Yarra in October 2012.

Briskin-Rettig said the decision to open in Melbourne was a strategic one.

Collins Street is renowned as being one of the best retail precincts in Melbourne, offering a unique shopping experience amongst high quality stores – it felt the right place for the development of A-Esque,” Ms Briskin-Rettig said.

The store occupies 23sq m at 101 Collins Street, with a rental rate on par with current retail rents at the Paris end of Collins Street.

In 2007, Briskin-Rettig sold Mimco to Witchery Holdings for a reported $45 million.

Her latest venture is pitched as an upmarket accessories brand.
